PREPARATION ATTACHING THE STRAP Pass the short end of 1 the strap through the eyelet. Strap eyelet Pass the long end of 2 the strap through the loop. PREPARATION SELECTING COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE BATTERIES OR THE AC ADAPTER The following batteries or AC adapter can be used in addition to the included battery. PREPARATION INSERTING THE SMARTMEDIA CARD Pictures taken by the camera are stored on a SmartMedia card. Check the following. 1 The orange The lens barrier lamp is off. is closed. The monitor is off. Open the card cover. 2 Insert the SmartMedia card in 3 the direction shown in the figure. There is a mark inside the card cover indicating the direction in which the card should be inserted. PREPARATION INSERTING THE SMARTMEDIA CARD REMOVING THE SMARTMEDIA CARD To remove the card, hold the card with your fingertips, and pull it out in the direction of the arrow. PREPARATION TURNING THE CAMERA ON/OFF WHEN TAKING PICTURES Turning the camera on: Open the lens barrier. The camera turns on in the Record mode. Turning the camera off: Close the lens barrier. The camera turns off. WHEN PLAYING BACK PICTURES Turning the monitor on: Press the button with the lens barrier closed. The camera turns on in the Play mode and the monitor turns on. TAKING PICTURES TAKING PICTURES HOLDING THE CAMERA Hold the camera with both hands and tuck your elbows tightly into your body. Horizontal position Vertical position Incorrect way to hold the camera Make sure not to block the lens or the flash with your fingers or the camera strap. ✕ Note Clear images can not be obtained if the camera shakes when the shutter button is pressed. TAKING PICTURES TAKING PICTURES You can use either the viewfinder or the monitor. Whichever you choose, you can take pictures simply by pressing the shutter button. When you take pictures, the images are recorded on the SmartMedia card in the camera. TAKING PICTURES USING THE VIEWFINDER Open the lens barrier. 1 Slide the lens barrier open until it clicks.
