Rosen Entertainment Systems WHY ARE THE BLACK BARS STILL THERE SOMETIMES? Eliminating Black Bars when viewing a DVD: There are three possible reasons for black bars to appear on the top and bottom of the display: 1) Make sure that the internal DVD player is set to “Wide Screen” (see DVD Setup, page 10 or 13). 1) You are watching a widescreen movie with an aspect ratio greater than 1.85:1.
