Tool Rest Position the tool rest as close to the workpiece as possible. It should be slightly above the center line of the workpiece. Installing & Removing Live Center 1. Clean the tapered shank of the live center (A, Fig. 7) and the inside of the quill (B, Fig. 7) on the tailstock.
