Note: The power cord’s plug is polarized (one side is larger than the other). If it does not fit, turn it over. Do not force it. INSTALLING THE BACKUP BATTERY To keep the clock running during an AC power failure, install a 9-volt battery. We recommend an alkaline battery, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-553. 5

USING EARPHONES VOLUME To listen in privacy, turn to its lowest setting and 1 EAR- plug a monaural earphone with a /8-inch plug into the PHONE jack. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. • Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. • Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. 8
