Preface Who Should Read This Book The HPSS Management Guide is intended as a resource for HPSS administrators. For those performing the initial configuration for a new HPSS system, Chapter 1 provides a configuration roadmap. For both new systems and those upgraded from a previous release, Chapter 1 provides a configuration, operational, and performance checklist which should be consulted before bringing the system into production. Chapter 1. HPSS 7.1 Configuration Overview 1.1. Introduction This chapter defines the high-level steps necessary to configure, start, and verify correct operation of a new 7.1 HPSS system, whether that system is created from scratch or created by conversion from a 6.2 HPSS system. To create or modify the HPSS configuration, we recommend that the administrator first be familiar with the information described in the HPSS Installation Guide, Chapter 2: HPSS Basics and Chapter 3: HPSS Planning.
