The speaker terminals may be shorted (see page 19). The audio is muted occasionally. i. Check to see if the unit is squelching (indicated by the squelch LED). In this case, either improve the RF signal path or adjust the squelch setting for less squelch sensitivity. I hear noise coming from the receiver.
