Installing Batteries Handset batteries MUST be connected before beginning initial charging! (Diagram #6) – Installing the batteries 1. Remove battery compartment cover by sliding it downwards. 2. Battery Life Fully charged batteries provide an average talk time of about 4 hours, or standby time of about 8 days. Talk time & standby time may vary depending on operating conditions. Area Code Setting Your BellSouth A50 allows you to dial from your CALLER ID memory and your phonebook. When you use your phone for the first time or if you have moved to a different area code, you need to enter your area code into the phone. This assures that when dialing a call out of memory or your phonebook, the number is formatted properly. To set your area code: 1. Using The Pause Feature For Dialing The “R/P” button is used to insert a temporary pause during a dialing sequence. Program- ming in a pause will cause the phone to wait two (2) seconds before dialing additional numbers. This feature may be used when it is necessary to dial an access code (9, for example) and wait for a second dial tone before you can dial an outside number.
