SECTION 1 ® The HART Communicator INTRODUCTION The HART (Highway Addressable Remote Transducer) Communicator (Figure 1-1) is a hand-held interface that provides a common communication link to all HART-compatible, microprocessor-based instruments. HART COMMUNICATOR CONNECTIONS The HART Communicator can interface with a transmitter from the control room, the instrument site, or any wiring termination point in the loop through the rear connection panel (Figure 1-2). To interface, connect the HART Communicator with the appropriate connectors in parallel with the instrument or load resistor. All connections are non-polarized. When connecting to a PC, you must use the PC Communication Adapter to connect to the Communicator’s serial port. See L
