2 2 Chapter 2 Getting Started This chapter explains how to access your Moxa EtherDevice Switch for the first time. There are three ways to access the switch: serial console, Telnet console, and web browser. The serial console connection method, which requires using a short serial cable to connect the switch to a PC’s COM port, can be used if you do not know the switch’s IP address. To be able to access the EDS’s functions over the network (using Telnet or a Web Browser) from a PC host that is connected to the same LAN as the EDS, you need to make sure that the PC host and the EDS are on the same logical sub network. To do this, check your PC host’s IP address and netmask. By default, the EDS’s IP address is 192
