Installing the batteries: Battery installation is made more convenient when the carry clip is rotated either left or right to the upside-down position, or is removed completely. Simply rotate the clip in either direction to the vertical position. Be careful not to use excessive force. The following guidelines will improve performance and provide longer operating times for the GMRS121-2: 1. Do not mix old and new batteries. 2. The use of alkaline-type batteries is recommended to provide the longest operating time. 3. Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable batteries. 4. Channel Selection In order to communicate with other GMRS/FRS units, both the transmit- ting and receiving party must be on the same frequency. The GMRS121-2 has 22 channels (frequencies) indicated by the large digits on the LCD display panel. Channels 1 through 7 are the shared GMRS/FRS channels.
