OPERATION Begin cutting with the saw against the log. Keep the unit running the entire time you are cutting, maintain a steady speed. Allow the chain to cut for you; exert only light downward pressure. Forcing the cut could result in damage to the bar, chain, or motor. OPERATION BUCKING WITH A WEDGE See Figure 19. If the wood diameter is large enough for you to WEDGE insert a soft bucking wedge without touching the chain, you should use the wedge to hold the cut open to prevent pinching. NOTE: When bucking or felling with a wedge, you may need to remove the SAFE-T-TIP anti-kickback device to allow the bar to be drawn through the cut. After you complete the cut, reinstall the tip. OPERATION Branches under tension should be cut from the bottom up to avoid binding the chain saw. Keep the tree between you and the chain saw while limbing. Cut from the side of the tree opposite the branch you are cutting. PRUNING See Figure 24. Pruning is trimming limbs from a live tree.
