Starting & Operating Before Starting Check the oil and gas levels. Check the tires for proper inflation. Check the latch on the dump body—it should be secure. Set the parking brake. 3. Pull the recoil rope (Figure 8) slowly, until you feel drag. Let the rope rewind slowly. Then pull the recoil with a rapid full arm stroke to start the engine.
