Chapter 2: Installation 7 Setting up your network The DSR switching system uses IP addresses to uniquely identify the switch and the target devices. The DSR1024 switch supports both Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and static IP addressing. Avocent recommends that IP addresses be reserved for each switch and that they remain static while the DSR switches are connected to the network. Power down the target device(s) that will be part of your DSR switching system. Locate the power cord that came with the DSR1024 switch. The top green LED is the Link indicator. It will illuminate when a valid connection to the network is established and blink when there is activity on the port.
