The straps are held in place by two knobs that extend sideways from either side of each pedal. 3 HEART RATE ZONE TRAINING EXERCISE 3.1 WHY HEART RATE ZONE TRAINING EXERCISE? Research shows that maintaining a specific heart rate while exercising is the optimal way to monitor the intensity of a workout and to achieve maximum results. That is the idea behind the Life Fitness heart rate zone training approach to exercise. 3.2 HEART RATE MONITORING ® THE POLAR TELEMETRY HEART RATE MONITORING CHEST STRAP The Lifecycle recumbent bike is equipped with Polar telemetry (optional on the 90R in the United States), a heart rate monitoring system in which electrodes, pressed against the skin, transfer heart rate signals to the bike console. SELECTING A WORKOUT MODE Two workout mode options on the Lifecycle recumbent bike feature alternate ways to vary workouts. • Bike Mode: This workout mode simulates the experience of riding a real bicycle. The rate of calories burned, and total distance travelled increase automatically as the user increases the pedaling speed.
