With Acrobat Reader, you have several ways to navigate through text: Click on hot topics, which are usually underlined or displayed in a different color. Chapter 1 Setting Up Your Scanner Setting up your scanner is easy—just follow the steps in this chapter in the order listed below. 1. Unpack and choose a good place for the scanner. 2. Unlock the scanner. 3. Install the automatic document feeder. 4. Test the scanner. 5. Set the SCSI ID number and terminator switch (SCSI connections only). 6. Connect the scanner to your computer. 9

Unpacking Your Scanner Remove the automatic document feeder and scanner from the box, then remove the packing material from your scanner. Save the packaging in case you need it later. The scanner and automatic document feeder are large and heavy, so you may need to have someone help you unpack and lift them. Choosing a Good Place for Your Scanner When deciding where to place the scanner, follow these guidelines: Place the scanner on a flat, stable surface. If the scanner is tilted, it can’t operate properly. Make sure to place the scanner where you can easily unplug the power cord, near a grounded wall outlet, and where your cable can reach your computer. Keep the scanner away from direct sunlight and strong light sources. Avoid places subject to shocks and vibrations, or high or rapidly

Unlocking the Scanner Before installing the automatic document feeder and connecting the scanner to a power source, you must release the transportation lock on the back of the scanner. unlocked position Use a coin or large flat-head screwdriver to turn the transportation lock button counterclockwise to the unlocked position, as shown. Installing the Automatic Document Feeder The automatic document feeder (ADF) automatically loads multi-page documents into your scanner. The ADF is large and heavy. Clear a wide space around the scanner before installing the ADF. You may need to have someone help you unpack and lift it.
