Choosing a Good Place for Your Scanner When deciding where to place the scanner, follow these guidelines: Place the scanner on a flat, stable surface. If the scanner is tilted, it can’t operate properly. Installing the Automatic Document Feeder The automatic document feeder (ADF) automatically loads multi-page documents into your scanner. The ADF is large and heavy. Clear a wide space around the scanner before installing the ADF. You may need to have someone help you unpack and lift it.
