Chapter 1 Getting Started The Model 3395/3395A Terminal Server is a combination of hardware and software that links users at serial devices, such as terminals, to resources on both local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs). These resources include a variety of hosts, workstations, and printers, as well as other SynOptics terminal servers. Getting Started Managing Sessions The connection between a terminal server port and a device on the network is called a session. You can establish a session with a LAT service, a Telnet host, an IBM host, or another terminal server after you log in to the terminal server port. The Model 3395/3395A Terminal Server allows you to open several sessions simultaneously, and move among them while you work. The next sections explain how to establish and manage sessions. Getting Started Suspending a Session When you suspend a session, you recall the Model 3395/3395A command interface without terminating the connection to the remote resource. Later, you can reopen the session and continue with your work. To suspend a session, press the Break key or the local switch character during the session. (A local switch character is a control character sequence that you or the network manager can define. Chapter 2 explains how to do this.) The TS3395> prompt appears,

Getting Started Using UNIX Aliases for Terminal Server Commands The Model 3395 Terminal Server software provides several UNIX equivalents, or aliases, for Model 3395/3395A Terminal Server commands. If you work in a UNIX environment, you may want to use these aliases because they will be more familiar to you than the Model 3395/3395A commands.
