IV. Before Starting Your Engine A. Checking Oil Level To avoid engine damage, it is important to: • Check oil level before each use and every 5 operating hours when engine is warm. Check oil level more frequently during engine break-in. Fill Between FULL • Keep oil level between “FULL” and “ADD” marks on “FULL” and “ADD” dipstick or to point of overflow on engines without Marks dipstick. See Figure 6. B. Removing Debris from Engine Before each use, remove the air cleaner cover. Remove 4 grass clippings, dirt and debris from the following areas: • Levers and Linkage • Cooling Fins • Air Intake Screen 3 • Air Inlet • Guards Removing debris will insure adequate cooling, correct engine speed and reduce the risk of fire. D. Cleaning/Replacing Air Cleaner Your engine has an air cleaner which helps prevent 2 3 premature engine wear and failure. NEVER run engine without complete air cleaner installed on engine.
