E. Chimney Requirements When planning your fireplace location, the chimney construc- tion and necessary clearances must be considered. The fire- place system and chimney components have been tested to provide flexibility in construction. The following figures are the minimum distances from the base of the fireplace. • Minimum overall straight height is 6 ft 4 in. if the fireplace is freestanding and a minimum of 10 ft from a combustible structure. Mark the Exit Point of the Roof Locate the point where the chimney will exit the roof by plumbing down to the center of the chimney. Drive a nail up through the roof to mark the center.
